Gerrit Smith Estate National Historic Landmark
The Gerrit Smith Estate National Historic Landmark in Peterboro was once home to abolitionist and philanthropist Gerrit Smith and is a certified site on the Underground Railroad trail. Open May–September, Saturdays and Sundays from 1–4 p.m., and for special events or by appointment. You can also visit the Greene Smith Birdhouse Museum, which houses thousands of preserved birds, nests, and eggs, reflecting 19th-century ornithology and the natural history of the region.
