Deruyter
DeRuyter is a place to breathe deeply, enjoy simple moments, and feel quietly connected to nature.
DeRuyter is a small hilltop town shaped by open skies, winding roads, and a strong sense of community. At its heart is DeRuyter Reservoir, where calm water and tree-lined shores invite fishing, paddling, and slow summer afternoons. Wander through the nearby DeRuyter State Forest for a serene off-grid experience.
Fishermen will want to cast on DeRuyter Lake. You’re likely to reel in largemouth bass, walleye, rainbow trout, yellow perch, bluegill, pumpkinseed, and brown bullhead, among additional species. But before you go, be sure to pick up some live bait at Maken Frenz Plus Bait N Tackle.
Enjoy year-round log cabin rentals on the water's edge from DeRuyter Lake General Store & Cottage Rentals at the south end of the lake. The surrounding countryside is dotted with farms, forests, and long views that change with the seasons. Life here moves at a relaxed pace, guided by the land and the people who care for it.
For some family fun, check out the annual DeRuyter Fireman’s Fair. Held every August, this old-time fair features carnival rides, truck and tractor pulls, fireworks, games, and entertainment.
